THE CHIPBOARD WOOD PROFESSIONALS, IN STRAMBINO, PROVINCE OF TURIN

The history of Baro Legnami begins in the early twentieth century, when Bartolomeo Germano Baro, residing in the hamlet of Carrone, then Candia, combined his farming activities with the trade of grains, wine and timber. This gave rise to Baro, which, from panels to chipboard, from hardware to gardening, has since become one of the most important companies in the Province of Turin.

A turning point came in 1919, with the purchase of a disused military armoury in Strambino, where the first sawmill was established, thus beginning the sawmill business. The site is still the company’s headquarters today. Bartolomeo’s three sons Giuseppe, Giovanni and Antonio were there to help him in the new company.

A growing business and exotic wood

Giuseppe died in 1936, the founder Bartolomeo Germano died in 1938, and company ownership passed to the brothers Antonio and Giovanni. Full ownership then passed to Giovanni in 1945 when he also lost his remaining brother.

Despite these family ups and downs, the sawmill activities continued. When they were old enough, cousins Germano and Virgilio, the sons of Giovanni and Antonio, took over. Under their guidance, the company grew and expanded, and they began to sell exotic wood imported from Africa as well as wood from America and Canada. In addition, a second sawmill line designed specifically for African logs was added and they began to produce wooden profiles.

With the introduction of panelling, there came a need to grow further and install a painting system with two automatic lines. This, combined with the fact that it is the only company to produce panelling directly, allowed our business to expand into neighboring Switzerland.

The new century: cutting-edge instrumentation for woodworking

Germano passed away in 1997. In 2004 Virgilio purchased the other half of the sawmill from his heirs and the current Baro Germano and Figli Srl Unipersonale was established with Virgilio and his wife Maria, his daughter Francesca and son-in-law Alberto.

The new generation has strengthened the roof production department relying on traditional numerical control systems alongside traditional systems, as well as the collaboration of experts who make on-site surveys with cutting-edge instrumentation.

In addition, we have decided to focus on green building by collaborating with a group of designers experienced in solutions with low energy consumption and reduced environmental impact. Choose Baro Legnami for all your needs, from chipboard to cladding.
